You need an MCA ID to do almost anything on mca.gov.in beyond a company search: view a company’s filed documents, file a form, apply for a DIN. Making one is free and takes about ten minutes. This is the whole process on the MCA V3 portal, and the one choice you have to get right at the start.
Who can make an MCA ID?
Any individual with a PAN, and any director or designated partner with a DIN. You do not need to be a company secretary or work for a company. There are two kinds of MCA user ID, and which one you make depends on what you want to do.
Registered User vs Business User in MCA
Registered User
For any individual. You can view public documents, see company master data, file a complaint, and file a few forms such as RUN and SPICe+.
The one you need to download a company’s documents
Business User
For people who file forms for a company or LLP. You pick one role at sign-up: Director or Designated Partner, Professional in practice, the Company or LLP itself, a Manager or Authorised Representative, or an Officer in default.
Upgrade to this later from your profile
If you only want to look at and download a company’s filings, make a Registered User ID. You can change a Registered User to a Business User later from Profile Update, without making a new ID.
The Business User roles in full:
- Director or Designated Partner (registers with a DIN or DPIN; PAN is optional)
- Professional: Company Secretary, Chartered Accountant or Cost Accountant in practice (needs your institute membership number)
- Company or LLP (needs the CIN or LLPIN; this ID logs in with the CIN, not an email)
- Manager, Secretary or Authorised Representative of a company
- Officer in default, professional staff member, and IEPF nodal officer
What you need before you start
- Your PAN. Every role asks for it except Director or Designated Partner, which uses your DIN.
- Your name and date of birth exactly as they appear on your PAN (or, for a director, on your DIN record). A mismatch is the most common reason registration fails.
- An email address you check. It becomes your user ID, and one email can hold only one MCA account.
- A mobile number, entered with its country code.
- Your DIN, DPIN or membership number, if your Business User role needs one.
How to create an MCA login ID, step by step
- Open the form. Go to mca.gov.in, click Sign In / Sign Up at the top right, then Register.
- User Details. Choose Registered User or Business User. For a Business User, choose your role. Enter your PAN, and the DIN or membership number if your role asks for one. Click Next.
- Personal Details. Enter your name, date of birth and gender, as on your PAN. For a director these fill in from MCA’s records; check them. Click Next.
- Contact Details. Choose the country first, then the PIN code; the state fills in, and you pick the city and area. Enter your mobile number and email. Click Next.
- Login Details. Choose a password of 6 to 15 characters, with at least one letter, one number and one of these symbols:
! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) ~. Other symbols, such as a full stop or a hyphen, are not accepted. Passwords are case-sensitive. Pick a recovery question and answer. - Review everything and click Create My Account.
- Enter the two OTPs, one sent to your email and one to your mobile. If one does not arrive, Resend unlocks after a minute.
- Done. You see “Congratulations!! You have been successfully registered on MCA portal”, and a confirmation arrives by email. Your MCA user ID is the email you registered with.
How long does it take to get an MCA login?
About ten minutes, and the ID works as soon as you see the confirmation. There is no approval step and no waiting period: you can log in and use View Public Documents straight away.
Three things can make it longer:
- MCA OTP not received. OTPs are slow in the evenings and in the last week before a filing deadline. Resend after a minute, or try again in the morning.
- A details mismatch. If your name or date of birth does not match your PAN or DIN record, the form stops you until it does.
- “An account already exists”. Your PAN, email or DIN is already on an older MCA ID. Use Forgot User ID on the login page to find it and log in with that. If the old ID is not yours to use, raise a ticket with MCA’s helpdesk to release your details first.
If you are a Business User who will file forms, you also associate your Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) after your first login. That takes a few minutes more, and is not needed to view documents.
Logging in to MCA V3
Your user ID is your email address. Enter it and your password, then type the six-character captcha, which is case-sensitive. Business Users, and anyone logging in from a new device, then enter an OTP. A session ends after about an hour and a quarter without activity, so a long task may mean logging in again.
Common questions
Is MCA registration free?
Yes, making an MCA user ID is free. There is no registration fee for a Registered User or a Business User. MCA charges only for services you use afterwards, such as viewing a company’s public documents or filing forms.
Which MCA ID do I need to view or download a company's documents?
A Registered User ID is enough to view and download any company’s public documents on MCA V3. View Public Documents is open to every registered user; you do not need a Business User ID, a DIN or a DSC for it.
Can I register on MCA without a PAN?
You can register on MCA without a PAN only as a Director or Designated Partner, using your DIN. Every other role, including the ordinary Registered User, asks for a PAN, and the live form will not continue without one.
Can a foreign national make an MCA ID?
Yes, a foreign national can make an MCA ID as a Director or Designated Partner with a DIN, which needs no PAN. A foreign national verifies either the email OTP or the mobile OTP during registration, not both.
What is the difference between a Registered User and a Business User in MCA?
A Registered User in MCA is any individual who wants to view documents and company data or file a few simple forms. A Business User files forms on behalf of a company or LLP and registers in a role, such as director or practising professional, with the DIN or membership number that role needs.
How do I change a Registered User to a Business User in MCA?
Log in, open Profile Update and use Add Role to become a Business User. You keep the same MCA user ID and password; you do not register again or make a new email ID for it.
Can I have two MCA IDs?
No, one email address and one PAN can hold only one MCA ID. You also cannot hold two roles on one ID at the same time; to change your role, use Add Role from Profile Update rather than registering a second time.
I had an MCA V2 login. Do I register again on MCA V3?
No, an MCA V2 user ID and password work on MCA V3. Log in with them and check your details on Profile Update. Registering again with a new email makes a separate account without your filing history.
Is a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) required for MCA registration?
No, a DSC is not required to register on MCA or to view documents. A Business User associates a DSC with the ID after registering, and only needs it to file forms.
How do I change my email ID or mobile number in MCA?
A Registered User can change the mobile number and address from Profile Update, but not the email, because the email is the MCA user ID. A director changes email and mobile only through the DIR-3 KYC form.
I forgot my MCA user ID or password. What do I do?
Use Forgot User ID or Forgot Password on the MCA login page. MCA checks your date of birth and sends an OTP to your registered email or mobile before it shows your user ID or lets you set a new password.
MCA OTP not received. What now?
Wait a minute and press Resend; MCA’s OTPs run late in the evenings and in the last week before a filing deadline. If the OTP still does not arrive, check that the mobile number carries the country code and the email is spelt right, and try again in the morning.
Once you have your MCA ID
To download a company’s documents, log in, open View Public Documents, search the company and pay MCA’s fee. MCA’s page then downloads five documents at a time, with a captcha for each. ROCwork downloads all of them from your logged-in tab, sorted into folders, in minutes. Your first two companies are free.
